Vivek Vijay

Vivek Vijay is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur. Prior to joining IIT Jodhpur as an Assistant Professor in the year 2010, Dr Vivek spent a year and a half in the quantitative finance unit of Syntel Inc as a Manager (Derivatives) from September 2008 to March 2010. Dr Vivek also worked at Goa Institute of Management, Goa as an Assistant Professor and with the Department of Mathematics at BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus as a Lecturer. He received his PhD in Statistics from the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2007 and M Sc (Math) from the Government College, Kota (Presently Kota University) in 2000. His research interests lie in the broad area of Categorical Data Analysis, with some applications in collapsibility of contingency tables, and forecasting of financial data, solar data and health care data using Machine Learning and Statistical Techniques.
Dr Vivek is a passionate writer on the issues of social interest. He has authored a book "Tasmai Sri Gurve Namah" a poetic biography of the founder of All World Gayatri Pariwar, Pandit Sri Ram Sharma “Acharya” and also penned down a narrative book on school education “Mai Vidyalaya Bol Raha Hoon”.
Apart from his research work, he is also working on Making Mathematics Simple by creating experiments in Mathematics, especially for school students.

Welcome to the EduMEasy Math Lab, an innovative project led by our team. This page aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the mission, vision, objectives, and the impact that we have made in the mission of removing the fear of the subject mathematics from the students of standard 6 to 10.

About the Maths Lab Initiative

The Maths Lab Initiative is a collaborative effort between Professor Vivek Vijay and the students of IIT Jodhpur. It was founded with the vision of revolutionizing mathematics education by introducing practical and experiential learning in schools. Mission and Vision

Mission: Our mission is to transform mathematics education by creating interactive learning environments that foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among students.

Vision: We envision a future where every student develops a strong foundation in mathematics and is equipped with the skills needed to apply mathematical concepts in practical scenarios.

Objectives

Introduce interactive mathematical tools and experiments in schools to enhance student engagement and understanding.
Ignite students' interest in mathematics by making it more relatable and enjoyable.
Develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through hands-on learning experiences.
Foster a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts by emphasizing their practical applications.

Implementation

The Maths Lab Initiative was implemented in collaboration with select partner schools. These schools were chosen based on their commitment to innovation in education and their willingness to incorporate practical learning approaches.

The IIT Jodhpur students played a crucial role in designing experiments and activities that aligned with the school curriculum, ensuring that the labs catered to the specific needs of the students.

Throughout the implementation process, we encountered various challenges, such as resource constraints and resistance to change. However, through effective communication, training programs, and continuous support, we successfully addressed these challenges and created a thriving learning environment in each partner school.

Achievements and Impact

The Maths Lab Initiative has reached over 20+ partner schools and impacted the lives of more than 10,000 students.
Teachers and administrators have reported a significant increase in students' motivation and enthusiasm for mathematics.
Students have demonstrated improved problem-solving skills and a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematical principles.
Several success stories have emerged, with students applying their knowledge to real-life situations and participating in mathematics competitions with remarkable results.
